Electronic Arts

My time as an Experience Design intern at Electronic Arts, summer 2018.

Overview

Over the summer of 2018, I joined the Electronic Arts - Experience Design Team, specifically the Player Network Discovery Team, as an Experience Design Intern. I was responsible for determining the direction of the player network and creating an experience that helped players find and play content they would enjoy.

I approached the challenge with extensive brainstorming, white boarding and ideation sessions with other team members and translated the concepts into high-fidelity designs we used for user testing and feedback. The project concluded with a functioning prototype built in react and a series of potential recommendations for continued exploration.

I had the opportunity to work with and learn from a diverse team of talented Designers, Engineers and UX Researchers. Specifically my mentor, Lyndon Mayer, who constantly challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and learn new skills while having the support of him and my team if I ever made a mistake. I learned so much about Interaction Design, User Research, Design Thinking and Design Systems creation.

Above all else, I learned how to work collaboratively with a large team to tackle challenging problems from a Human Centered Design perspective.

Some of our best ideas come from exploring completely random or silly avenues! Looking at a problem from a new perspective and putting a fun twist on it is a great exercise if you're feeling stuck.

Build the foundation first

Figure out exactly what the content of your designs are before diving into the visuals. Visual design is really fun and one of my favorite parts of the design process but remember to not jump in prematurely.

Ask for frequent feedback

It's important to share your work early and often to get as much feedback as possible! Rough work is totally fine if you can justify your decisions

Make the work your own

Love what what you do and find a way to make some part of the project a reflection of yourself. Even a boring project can be brought to life by incorporating some of your passions into it.

While my work is covered by NDA, please feel free to contact me to discuss more about my experiences at EA!
